Cheatham County Elementary Schools will be participating in National School Breakfast Week, NEXT WEEK, Monday – Friday, March 6-10. This year’s theme “Take the School Breakfast Challenge” is encouraging parents, students and school officials to start their day with a healthy meal.
“We all know you can’t teach a hungry child,” said School Nutrition Supervisor Melanie Smiley.
According to the Food Research and Action Council only ½ of students who eat lunch at school, eat school breakfast, which has proven to be true within Cheatham County Schools.
National School Breakfast Week will be observed by Cheatham County Elementary Schools in an extra special way. Cheatham County School District has extended an invite to families and local officials to participate and make a child’s week by starting the day having breakfast at one of the district’s elementary schools next week. The following days have been scheduled:
- Monday, March 6: Moms
- Tuesday, March 7: School Board members and city officials
- Wednesday, March 8: Grandparents, aunts and uncles
- Thursday, March 9: Local firefighters and police officers
- Friday, March 10: Dads
The cafeteria doors will open at 6:45 a.m.
School breakfast programs offer students a healthy morning meald to prepare for the busy day ahead and each one served meets the federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium.
