Cheatham County School District is fortunate to have Molly Hudgens, Counselor at Sycamore Middle School. Yesterday, she confidently counseled a troubled student, who awoken with possible intent to harm teachers and students, with a loaded gun brought to school. Her ability to convince a troubled student not to use the loaded gun he’d brought with intend to harm is beyond a blessing. Diffusing a potential mass shooting from happening, while uncertain what may or may not happen the next minute, takes courage.
God blessed our school district with Molly Hudgens. I know her faith allowed God to work through her. He has a plan and purpose for everyone and God used her to help this young man not make a mistake he’d most likely regret for the rest of his life. Yes, she is a hero, keeping students and staff from potentially losing their life, but she also saved a young man, redirected him, by her successful guidance, possibly, hopefully, changing his life forever.
As we hug our children, thanking God, they were kept safe, please remember there is a young man, someone else’s child, troubled and confused, who made a huge mistake and should be punished for his actions, but also needs our prayers. Please join me in praying he gets the help he needs to turn his life around and learn from this unfortunate incident. Also, keep the parents in your prayers as I’m sure their heart breaks for what could have happened and what their son is now facing. We can never know what another is thinking, or have all the answers to ‘why’, but we can all be like Molly Hudgens, by showing empathy and compassion, with a smile, hoping to help another make it through another day.
Thank you Molly Hudgens! You are a hero and a blessing!
Thanks also goes out to teachers, administrators and Cheatham County School District and Cheatham County Law Enforcement for acting quickly, efficiently and keeping everyone safe.
