Director of Schools Dr. Stan Curtis’ contract with Cheatham County School District will expire in March of 2017 but board members could make a decision whether or not to renew his contract as early as October 2016.

School board member John Louallen proposed to fellow board members to consider voting on the director’s contract to alleviate any uncertainties regarding the position or the direction of the board, during the September 8, 2016, school board workshop. He further stated it wouldn’t be fair to Curtis, the central office or the school district to delay making the impending decision.

If board members decide not to renew Curtis’ contract in October they will have sufficient time to search for a new director before the end of March.

The board will further discuss the director position at the next workshop on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 6:00 p.m., prior to the board meeting which will be held on Monday, October 2, 2016, at 7:00 p.m.  Both meetings are held in the Annex Building of Ashland City Elementary School, located at 108 Elizabeth Street, Ashland City.

The public is encouraged to attend meetings and are given the opportunity during monthly board meetings to address board members, participants are given three minutes, with concerns, appreciation or opinions.
